Summer in the City #DEUX (Pianos LES)

Summer in the City is a collaborative show case presented by actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt for his Internet based production company Hitrecord.org. Joe decided a few years back that using his position in the film industry to introduce new talent would be much more exciting to do and created the production company. Collaborative material created by members of Hitrecord have been presented at the Sundance Film festival as well as the South by SouthWest Film Festival. You have to give it to the guy for working with random people who upload material from all over the world and create these amazing collaborations right from the comfort of their own homes.

The show is sold out, but you can check it out tonight at 10pm on Ustream my clicking here:

The Cure performsBoys Dont Cry live in Japan in 1984.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I was 2 when this was going on probably playing with Rainbow Bright dolls and shit, but I’m sure I rocked out just a little to it!

”So I try to laugh about it cover it all up with lies, I try to laugh about it hiding the tears in my eyes”.

I’m such an 80s baby!

What to Do:Crooked Disco Labor Day Kickoff with DJ Huggs 9/3/10

Crooked Disco Labor Day Kickoff with DJ Huggs

After our massive Madonna and Michael Jackson birthday parties (thanks everyone who came out!), we’re stoked to get back to our roots with a classic edition of Crooked Disco. It’s Morsy and Kester on the decks all night long giving our favorite Summer jams one last spin and previewing some of our favorite new Fall future classics Expect their custom blend of mixed up party sounds of funky disco, Electro, Big room house, good hip hop, 80s, 90s and more.

Plus, our boy Huggs is in town from LA (via Montreal) to straight kill it on the decks. I can’t even write about how good he is so I’ll just use these quotes: “Huggs always kills it.” (Steve Aoki) “Had me wiling out all night.” (Cosmo Baker, The Rub) “One of our favourite DJ’s.” (Jokers of the Scene) “Such a good DJ. We got love for Huggs.” (Smalltown DJ’s) “One of the best DJ’s in the country.” (Scion Sessions Florida) If that doesn’t get you hype, check out his mixcloud mix below.

DRINK SPECIALS:
$5 wells drinks from 10-11
$3 Rolling Rock Cans all night
$30 Six-pack “bottle service”
+ the very special “Bootsy Collins” cocktail

Todays #Classic goes to Donnie Darko the 2001 Psychological Thriller/ Fanstasy film written and directed by Richard Kelly & Starring Jake Gyllenhaal. This movie was intended to be a “straight to video” film, but gained such a cult following that it hit theatres October 26,2001. This scene is my absolute FAVORITE! It features a stoned Donnie Darko starting his day at school as “Head over Heel” by Tears for Fears captures the moment perfectly! As melancholy as the song makes this scene the darkness of the film still seems to muscle its way through.

Enjoy…

Nasty Monday’s: Presented by Le Poisson

In Barcelona, Nasty Mondaysregularly draws more than 2,500 revelers to rock out with stage performers, local live bands, and internationally known artists. They’ve hosted official afterparties for artists including Franz Ferdinand, Mando Diao and The Sounds – just to name a few – by mixing 50′s rockabilly with 80′s new wave, 90′s grunge and recent hits. From Guns ‘n’ Roses to Grand Master Flash, The Beastie Boys to Johnny Cash, their playlists oscillate between The Ting Tings, Led Zeppelin, Iggy Pop, Blondie, Run DMC, Elvis, Motley Crue and AC/DC, to name just a few. Recently they’ve found a home stateside in Le Poisson Rouge where the boys fly in monthly to show New Yorker’s what partying in Barcelona is all about. It kicks off with an open vodka bar from 10-11 and goes late. 21+.

The 7th Annual “Rock the Bells” show went down on Governors Island this past Saturday 8/28/2010. Featured acts were Wu-Tang,Tribe, Lauryn Hill and Snoop. Cameo’s were made by Jay-Z, Beyonce, Alicia Keys , Swizz, Busta and Wiz Khalifa. We have to thank these folks for still providing the real for us as Hip Hop is in a crazy slump right now. Here is a dope video of Snoop performing “Lodi Dodi”, I still remember this shit word for word.
